Have you SEEN the new Star Wars toys, an R2-D2 robot & BB8 vehicle from Thinkway Toys? No… Well, if you’ve got a little boy like mine then you might just wanna read on! Oh AND join in with a mega Twitter party I’m co hosting on 30th November from 1-2.30pm – not only will we be talking all things Thinkway R2-D2 and BB-8 but we’ll be giving away some rather fabulous Toys R Us vouchers and if that wasn’e enough you can ALSO win an R2-D2 as seen in the picture below later o in this post!
Whoop, whoop! Party time! Now, back to those toys…
R2-D2 interactive and robotic droid!
R2-D2 interactive and robotic droid!
This time last year I don’t think Jimmy had even heard of Star Wars? Fast forward to now and wow… What a difference a year makes in terms of what he wants to play with. If I offered him a robotic, remote controlled R2-D2 like the one in the picture I think he’d squeal until NEXT Christmas… Star Wars… Could he BE the smallest but biggest fan I wonder?
It all started when we went to a Star Wars birthday party just before we left London in February, so the hold (or the force perhaps) took hold quickly. He knew absolutely nothing about the films, the characters or anything else let alone the masses of related toys he could be playing with but somehow, like many a little boy (and girl I’m sure) before him, he was captured and hasn’t really ever looked back. We came away from that party with not just a little bit of awe at the costumes (he was instantly smitten by ‘Dark Fader’ as he calls him) but with a handy little book all about the films in his goodie bag and from that night the Star Wars swatting began.
Within days, still without ever seeing a film, he could name all the characters, tell me who is good and who’s a baddie, conjure up games played of fighting in various space ships and pretending to be different robots (Droids are they? Is that right?) and he absolutely, well and truly, was taken over with wanting to play ‘Dark Fadar’… He knows he’s a baddie and he LOVES it!
My very own little 'Dark Fadar'... I havent' the heart to tell him he's got the name wrong because he wanders around so convincingly making the right noise and poking people with his light sabre that it's too sweet to make any corrections!

I’m no Star Wars know it all myself, I’ve never seen any of the films either and despite having a cat named Hoth Whomper after some sort of ice creature from The Empire Strikes Back (by a friend of mine), none of it has ever really interested me. Until now, when it still doesn’t REALLY interest ME as such but it takes my little boy’s attention well and truly so I can’t help but become attached.

My husband too is a massive fan and when Jimmy found out that Daddy had a trilogy box set lent to his nephew, weeks ensued of ‘Daddy, have you got the Star Wars DVD back yet?’ with such regularity that I thought I might implode before demanding that Daddy go and get the DVD back from his sister’s house immediately! And that… Well, that was the finishing touch to the Star Wars obsession. If he’d been into it before then really I’d seen nothing because the film took his attention exhaustively!

Here's the box set which changed ALL of our lives!
Here’s the box set which changed ALL of our lives (I can still say I’ve never sat and watched a Star Wars film myself but I can never say I’ve not hidden in the kitchen as the music rolls around on the credits AGAIN, wondering if I’ll ever just be able to watch Countdown?)!

And so for Christmas… What would this little ‘Dark Fadar’ fan of mine ask for I wonder… Well, he has the outfit. And the light sabre. It’s the right one for Dath I know. I spent AGES in the shop debating with the shop assistant which one was best and which one Darth would actually use compared to which one he uses in the third second of the first film during scene 12 (I may have exaggerated slightly there but you get my drift) so what else would he like because I KNOW there will have to be some sort of Star Wars related gifting going on for him this Yule?

Well, I wonder if there could be anything higher on his list than the R2-D2 remote controlled robotic droid? With his walking and spinning actions R2-D2 responds to pre-programmed instructions via the remote control, moving in all directions as it makes original movie sound effects and moves its head. Jimmy would LOVE that shizzle, he’s be bug eyes and it’d keep him crazy busy for hours!

Use the 10 buttons on the remote control to program over 1000 action combos or activate R2-D2's special projection facility to view an imprisoned Princess Leia™.

Or… Perhaps he’d like the U-Command Interactive BB-8, the astromech droid from Star Wars™ Episode VII – The Force Awakens… Again using a remote control (what kid, big or small doesn’t get a kick out of a remote controlled something?!) send him forwards, into reverse, left or right, plus get him rolling and spinning! BB-8 has over 20 original droid-speak phrases, plus special pre-programmed actions with different moods – happy, sad, excited, worried, scared and frustrated. What’s more, BB-8 makes different sound effects while his head moves, and a voice activated feature allows you to interact with him via a built-in microphone. Actually, out of the two, would Jimmy prefer this one? I’m not sure he could choose actually!

The U-Command Interactive BB-8 measures approximately 16-inches tall and comes with an instruction manual to help you get started on your Star Wars™ adventure.

I guess I’ll have to show him the advert and gauge which one gives him the biggest Star Wars eyes!

Look, I’m not a Star Warns fan personally but even I can see these would be the absolute hit for Christmas! Aren’t they just fabulous! I just know that the real ‘Dark Fadar’ will think they’re amazing!

He'd probably welcome them over to the dark side and say 'I have you now'... (Famous Darth quote - apparently?!)

  1. Oh wow. These are excellent! Plumlet has just started loving Star Wars ever since Neil found a box full of his 30 year old Star Wars toys! R2D2 is his favourite! This would be such a cool birthday present for him! And J in his ‘Dark Fadar’ costume – just brilliant! See you on Wednesday at 1pm!
