A Monster Confession!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Jimmy doesn’t sleep. He just doesn’t and at two year’s old it’s getting a bit much waking up three or four times in the night to then get up for the day at 5.30. He wants to feed much of the time which is irritating as he doesn’t even go back to sleep as a result of it! Then because he wants to twiddle the boob he’s not feeding on it’s also quite painful!

I want him to self wean when he’s ready but it isn’t half making it difficult for me that he is like this. Florence was similar but at least with her the feeding would send her back off to sleep!

Sometimes he screams and cries for no apparent reason whatsoever and the lack of sleep is driving me batty.

One of the things he screams about when he wakes up is ‘the mondents’ (monsters) and at first I would comfort him with ‘monsters aren’t real darling’… But Jimmy isn’t easily comforted and continues to SCREAM loudly… Then… When he’s woken himself and his sister up sufficiently he is happy again and wants to bounce on the bed while Florence is asking if it’s time to get up and Jonny and I are literally pulling our hair out!

So this is where I have to make my confession…

It doesn’t make me sound very nice…

It makes me sound horrid actually. I’ve told a few people and some laugh and others gasp with the shock horror of my nasty parenting technique…

One night in utter desperation I just said it.

‘IF YOU DON’T GO BACK TO SLEEP THE MONSTERS WILL COME AND GET YOU! THEY ONLY LEAVE SLEEPING LITTLE BOYS ALONE!’

And he went back to sleep… Um. I’m sorry but that result meant we all got to go back to sleep which in my eyes is an absolute winner!

So now, when he wakes up or won’t go to sleep in the first place I tell him the monsters will come…

I’m mean.

But I need some sleep!

He cuddles in and shuts his eyes. Thanks monsters!

MY LIFE WITH TWO!

We’ve had a lovely week in the sunshine with our best day being the end of last weekend and our day trip to Chalkwell Beach! We had such a good day out (apart from me not putting sun tan lotion on myself – being lazy as Florence correctly pointed out – and burning)! We took a lovely picnic and spent the day playing games and paddling. I’ve found out that I can even get there on the train in an hour so I see more beach days ahead!

Picnic 1

Picnic fun on the beach!

Like I said above, thanks to the monsters we’re all getting a bit more sleep so that’s quite nice and with Jimmy being prepared not to feed to sleep as a result (he’s still feeding loads don’t get me wrong) it’s making me feel a bit more confident about going away to Spain for a wedding without the children.

We go in September for three nights and I’m really nervous about it. My Mum will have her work cut out for her and she has to come and stay at our house rather than have them at hers because Florence will be at school by then!

Talking of school, it was Florence’s sports day this week and it was very sweet to go and see her with all her friends at nursery. It’s on the same grounds as her big school where they are building a special building just for reception. Florence has been quite worried about going but her teachers have explained she will still see them all the time and took her to show her the building being erected. She’s much more confident now thankfully.

Sports Day

Sports day fun!

And it’s half term already. This year is flying by and I can’t believe when she goes back it will be her last half term before big school. Think I need someone to come and make me feel more confident about it!

I’ll be back again next week but in the mean time please do follow me on Twitter @rocknrollerbaby.
