A Stokke Party At Back In Action – George Street, Marylebone!

I’ve worked with Stokke for a very long time now and am more than a fan of their products. I feel like I know all of them even though I’ve only actually owned two (a Stokke Xplory buggy and the Stokke Steps high chair) because once you’re bitten by the Stokke bug you just fall in love with the whole range.

I frequently pour over the latest colours for Style Kits (a way of changing up all the Stokke buggies to fit a new season or just a new whim) and when I’m there I can’t help myself for looking at the nursery range. IF, and it is an IF because after 6 months of trying nothing has happened yet, I do manage to get pregnant and have a much desired baby number 3, I know exactly what I’d have in the nursery. I love the Sleepi range (which is the famous round bed which converts from a newborn tiny crib to a full sized cot and then, eventually, a bed) but the ‘Home’ range is definitely what I’d go for. In the Hazy grey colour. It’s simply gorgeous. There’s a cradle which comes on legs that are able to later convert with the cot top changer into a desk, a cot which turns into a bed and, if there isn’t room for the cradle to stand alone, can house this too. To go with everything else is also a darling little chest of drawers. It’s all perfect but the canopy over the cot is absolutely immense and creates a little tent home for the baby which looks beautiful and must feel really cosy inside. It seriously is absolutely delightful.

Last week I went to the Back In Action store on George Street in Marleybone which is a shop dedicated not just to Stokke (it has the best and most comprehensive range of Stokke products I’ve ever seen in one place) but also to furniture designed to look after your body. The founder and owner David, who has had a relationship with Stokke ever since he discovered their Tripp Trapp chair (and the Norwegian designer, Peter Opsvik, who created it way back when), has a really interesting story and doesn’t just run his shop because it’s a good business but because he cares deeply about how bodies should be looked after.

He was injured when his car was hit by a drunk driver leading his investigations into what he could do to heal himself to the Tripp Trapp amongst other products created by Opsvik and there the relationship began. He believes that our bodies should sit the way they need to naturally and after trying some of the adult products I can totally see why it became a passion for him. The iconic Tripp Trapp chair for children, allows babies to sit properly, without being manipulated and when he saw his own baby daughter (now a grown up working alongside him) he knew that he needed to bring it to other parents; so as well as the adult Opsvik furniture he started to sell this too.

Fast forward to today and Stokke have a fleet of products, not all designed by Opsvik but all with the same philosophy about looking after our children’s bodies to make sure they don’t damage their posture for later on, and you can buy them ALL at Back In Action. You can also buy quite a few things to sort out your own wonky backs, legs, necks, arms or, if you’re like me, bad knees and I spent a good deal of time looking and trying all of those products too. I shall be trialling one of them on the blog soon so watch this space because I really think my bad knee could become a whole heap better but… I digress, back to Stokke…

Why would we want our children to have anything but a product which will work hard at making sure they don’t get bad backs and the like in later life? Stokke products may be aesthetically pleasing but actually this is just a happy by product because the primary concern is how well it works for your child. I adore that and as mumbles went around the room like ‘I wish I’d known this when he or she was a baby’ David told us that the Tripp Trapp is a chair which can take a child from birth to adulthood. The Steps chair too has the same advantage but his personal favourite is the Tripp Trapp so it got me thinking… It can’t possibly be too late, never too late, to invest in a Tripp Trapp and my children are only 4 and 6 so they have years of use in one left for sure. And they DO look so good don’t they? Well, that coupled with the fact they also come in that gorgeous colour Hazy Grey and I’m totally going to do it. Tripp Trapps all round for us!

It was wonderful to see the shop and be able to touch the products, see the colours (gosh they’re gorgeous and a plenty) and also, being the Stokke flagship store of London they also have exclusivity on some products. The new Xplory comes in Cobalt Blue and can ONLY be seen at Back In Action or Harrods… They had all the baby carriers on display and available to be tried on, every blanket, sheet, seat, cot… You name it and it’s at Back In Action. If you’re going to be buying something from Stokke and you want to do so in person then this is your place because the staff know everything about the brand, care so passionately about Stokke and it really is the one stop shop for all your questions as well as products. Michelle Ogundehin, the Editor in Chief at Elle Decoration, gave a talk about why she loves the brand so much and my thoughts are if it’s good enough for the most stylish stylonita as well as more importantly being the best thing for a baby’s posture then how could you go wrong?!

I’ll let you know soon how Florence and Jimmy get on in their Tripp Trapps, I can’t wait for them to use them! And that other little thing I’m going to try from Back In Action, to help my knee? Yep, I’ll let you know all about that too so watch this space!
