Poundland’s Christmas Wonderland!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

We’ve had a 99p shop on our high street for years and when I found out Poundland was opening up too I just thought ‘Oh no, not another one…’ But… Now that it’s here and I’ve had the pleasure of going in there properly (almost daily if I’m honest), I have to say it’s flipping brilliant and far better than all the other shops of a similar philosophy.

A week or so ago there was a documentary about Tatler magazine where they sent one of their super posh colleagues into Poundland for the first time. This ridiculous woman walked around the shop with the plum from her mouth falling out every time she gaped at what you could buy for, well, just a quid! Now I live in the real world, unlike this woman who had clearly never set foot in a discount store (I only saw the programme on Gogglebox and one of the Geordie viewers said to his family ‘what’s she like this one here ay, if she set foot in a Aldi or a Lidl like, she’d probably wet herself’!) but I am still shocked by some of the things they manage to sell at their perfect price of £1! Branded food and drinks, bits and bobs for my Friday Night Treat Teas, art and craft supplies, toiletries, treats for the children when they’ve done something treat worthy and even balls of wool for my new knitting craze ( which come in at three balls for £2) are some of the things I buy often. I bet that posh bird from Tatler goes back as well!

In July Poundland asked if I’d like to come and have a sneaky peak at their Christmas ware and I was not disappointed there either. From decorations to chocolates and a whole heap of other useful things Poundland really have got the lot proving that you really don’t have to spend a fortune to decorate your house beautifully. I particularly like the fact they’ve had ‘class Christmas card’ boxes with 31 cards and envelopes, brilliant idea!

Poundland challenged me recently, to take their Christmas decorations and transform a room in my house into a Christmas Wonderland so I got my thinking cap on and it didn’t take me long to turn to our theme of the moment, ‘Frozen’! Poundland have lots of ‘Frozen’ products, a lot of which I have bought for Florence’s upcoming ‘Frozen’ birthday party but for this challenge I wanted to use their decs to make a ‘Frozen’ grotto in the children’s room! And this is what we did!

First stop Poundland. Armed with £25 I bought LOADS and still didn't spend it all! I got snow powder, wrapping paper, decorations and stuff to 'build a snowman' and eat him!

I decorated the children's window with snowflake stickers, a snowy drape and a silver fringed tassle!

We draped fairly lights (battery powered (we also got a mahoosive pack of those) over everything, stuck more snowy drapes to the beds and hung up snowflake garlands on elastic!

I made up some of the snow - I bought three tubes but really only needed one teaspoon to make LOADS so should have bought less!

And with the marshmallows and matchmakers one side we had one edible sensory play pot and one non edible but very, very tactile one!

When it gets dark the LED star lights look awesome twinkling in red and white!

And of course, no Christmassy Frozen themed grotto would be complete without some Frozen wrapping paper covered presents!

And that’s our grotto and our entry into the Poundland Wnderland competition! You can get a LOOOOOOT of stuff, good stuff, at Poundland!

I was sent vouchers to buy the products for this post.
