#PampersUnicef 1 Pack = 1 Vaccine – 10 year Anniversary 1 Wish!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Two years ago we worked with Pampers to help promote their 1 Pack = 1 Vaccine campaign. This is their partnership with Unicef to donate vaccines in third world countries to eradicate maternal and newborn tetanus. For every pack of Pampers bought they will donate a vaccine and have been doing so for the last ten years!

Maternal and newborn tetanus may not be a disease that you’re familiar with because here in the UK we receive vaccinations and, more than that, we receive them fro FREE without any thought, it’s just a given! However, this unfortunately is not the case everywhere and affects families in some of the poorest areas of the world. It occurs when newborns are infected as a direct result of unhygienic birthing practices – can you imagine? NO, I don’t want to either. Once newborn tetanus has been contracted there is no real cure and it still claims the lives of 49,000 newborns every year, which is equivalent to one baby’s life every 11 minutes. These babies might be being born in third world countries where they don’t have as much money as us or as many resources but they have just the same amount of love and must have all the same parenting fears as the rest of us. I simply can’t even bring myself to try and imagine how frightening this situation must be for them and I feel so lucky that I have this privilege afforded to me because of where I happened to be born.

Since the Pampers-UNICEF “1 pack = 1 vaccine” campaign began in 2006, thanks to the support of parents just like yourself, they’ve helped to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus in 17 countries. This means that an estimated 500,000 newborn babies have been saved and a vaccine has reached a mother and her baby every second. However, there are still 21 countries where the disease remains a threat. That’s not good enough!

We need to do more and we need to spread the word about the Pampers and Unicef 1 pace = 1 vaccine campaign. And guess what else, you don’t even have to buy a pack for Pampers to donate! All you have to do is watch this videa below and for every view Pampers will donate THREE vaccines. Just get clicking and get watching – no excuses!

For the 10th anniversary of the Pampers UNICEF 1 pack = 1 vaccine campaign Pampers have asked me to join them, and other mums and dads across the world, to help achieve their one wish: to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus everywhere.

On September 30th, they shared their wish around the world and are now inviting everyone to do the same. They asked me to write about my one wish for my own children and share it with them. They know that a healthy start in life opens the door to a world of love, happiness and amazing experiences for every baby and want to help more babies and their mums and dads enjoy these special moments together! So, what’s my one wish for Florence and Jimmy?

Well, as a Mum all I ever really wish for them is health, love and happiness. I wish having the first two will ensure the last and that they will always be safe. I wish they achieve all three by being able to be themselves, who they want to be and by being good people – I know they will be good people because they already are. I wish that they feel love like no one has ever been loved before, I wish that they become parents and can love someone else like no one has ever loved before, I wish that they can use their creativity, intelligence and humour to have a smooth path in life. I wish that they will spend their days smiling. I wish for them that they grow up happy. I wish for them that they never feel ill. I guess I just wish for them to have life. Good life. Health, love and happiness.

I don’t think I’m so different to any other parent, no matter where they are in the world…

What else can YOU do?

Pampers and Unicef need your help on social media! As they blow out the candles on our tenth birthday cake and make their one wish, they want to see your beautiful pictures of your LO blowing out the candles on their birthday too – making a special wish is an important action, and for Pampers and UNICEF it will mean a huge amount. For every heart-warming picture you share of your LO’s birthday wish on social media using the #PampersUNICEF hashtag, and every time you share the Wish film (above), we will donate the cost of a vaccination: 1 wish = 1 vaccine, 1 share = 1 vaccine,

Here’s mine!
