Tommee Tippee – Soothers!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

I have had a funny relationship with dummies. I started out absolutely not wanting Florence to have one because I couldn’t bear the way they look and then through exasperation one evening when she wouldn’t sleep, I tried one. She took it for about half an hour and that was that! Never again. I was gutted as the dummy had provided just a bit of a break that evening and I relentlessly tried to give her one afterwards but just like a bottle she point blank refused.

Jimmy, who had his first bottle of expressed milk on the day he was born was much more easy going about it and would happily switch from breast to bottle, always with expressed milk with no fuss. He also, rather handily, took a dummy. He seemed to favour the rounded teets to the slanted and some more than others but it was always just trial and error as to which ones. I never knew, just randomly gave him different ones and some he took to, some he didn’t.

He was such a good sleeper in those first six months and I do think it has a lot to do with the dummy, or soother as they seem to be called these days. It just gave him comfort where with Florence she would always need to be feeding and it provided me with some much needed sleep myself. Unfortunately at six months, after just one night in hospital with Rotovirus, he stopped sleeping and like someone had flicked a switch he changed entirely when it came to relaxing. He suddenly refused his dummy and only wanted to breast feed, he’s rarely taken a bottle since and just like his sister he uses me for comfort these days…

I remember the day of the dummy very fondly and always have one or two in the toy box for him to play with just in case. He never does.

So neither of mine use a dummy these days but it doesn’t mean I’m not interested in new products so when Tommee Tippee said they were having a silent launch for their new range of soothers I wanted to go and see what they were all about. They named it a silent launch as the soothers are designed to provide babies with the comfort they need to not make any noise… Sounds good to me!

The range was developed using research to suggest that just like me, most Mum’s use only trial and error when it comes to deciding which brand. There are four ranges; Fun, Anytime, Night Time and Air. They have a bigger, longer and flatter silicon orthodontic teat which is just like that on a bottle and easier for a baby to hold in their mouth. Tommee Tippee listened to what Mums said about their experiences and in tests, this new teat has been accepted first time by more babies. They are also suitable from birth.

At £4.79 for a twin pack they can be bought in Tesco, Mothercare and Asda and we have to say we think the ‘Fun’ style is our favourite! Mainly because there is a ladybird one! Even Florence and Jimmy have had a go and Jimmy, has been sucking the one I was given at the launch! I know most people try to wean their child away from a dummy at his age but to be honest, if he decided to take it up again and I got some more sleep, there’s be worse things that have happened!
