Frozen!

On Sunday I got to do something VERY exciting with Florence! We got to be members in one of the very first UK screenings of the new Disney film ‘Frozen’! It’s not even out until 6th December so we felt very privileged to be invited!

We arrived outside the cinema in London’s Leicester Square to much excitement, flashing lights from the press cameras and lots of snow! And guess what else was there to meet us and greet us into the screening? REAL live reindeer! AMAZING!

With our friend E we were very excited pre screening and couldn’t wait to take our seats!

We got comfortable in the cinema and had lots of fun and giggles while we waited for ‘Frozen’ to start! Because it was the first screening it was also a bit of a party and Florence and her friend E had their faces painted and were given balloon models of reindeer! Then we got to see a short Disney 3D film which got us used to the glasses before we were truly treated to a live performance of one of the songs from the film.

Willemijn Verkaik voices Elsa, one of the ‘Frozen’ lead characters, in the Dutch and German versions of the film. She is also currently playing Elphaba in ‘Wicked’ in the West End. Wicked is one of our favourites as it’s the first BIG musical Florence has ever seen and we were very excited. She was amazing when she came out on stage and sang for us; we’d had so much fun already and the film hadn’t even started yet! Idina Menzel plays the same character in our version who is also famed for her Elphaba role and the song is awesome!

Fun in the cinema pre screening!

And then the film started! Florence is a ‘Disney’ fan in general but having recently seen ‘Planes’ she said ‘I don’t like Disney boys, only Disney girls’. She was very concerned that this film be for girls and have Princesses in it! I explained that this one was for girls and boys but all she wanted to know was that there were pretty dresses, tiaras and magic. From the start it didn’t dissapoint as two little Princess sisters Elsa and Ana tell their story from little girls, how Elsa has magical powers which can freeze everything and turn the world snowy.

The Princesses have great fun building their snowman friend Olaf and playing in the snow. But… Elsa doesn’t really know how to control her powers which while they can be beautiful can also be turned to evil and when Ana gets struck in the head with her sister’s powers, things start to change at the palace. Trolls look after her and make her better but only because she was struck in the head, had it been her heart things wouldn’t have been quite so easy…

The Princesses parents decide to wipe Ana’s memory and never tell her of Elsa’s powers again so that she is in no danger of getting hurt. They grow up but the girls no longer have their friendship and Elsa with her powers become reclusive relying on their parents for everything. Then the worst happens and her parents are washed out to sea on a boat… Elsa is to be crowned and will be in the Kingdom for all to see but what will happen when her powers are discovered?

I can’t tell you anymore or you will know the whole story line before you go and I have to say that even as an adult it’s a pretty amazing story! There’s comedy (Thanks Olaf), romance and a banging good tale to tell as well as Florence’s very desired Princesses! There’s obviously two of those which suited her down to the ground but I would say there’s also much for the boys in this one too!

Both Florence and her friend sat watching avidly all the way through and there was barely a murmur from anywhere in the theatre as everyone sat rapt. It was kind of like being in an actual theatre and watching a live West End performance, the singing is amazing and the songs were just awesome!

This Disney movie is so utterly superbly wonderful and we would LOVE to see it again. It’s going to be the Children’s Christmas hit I just know it and we’re so thrilled that we got to see it first! Thanks Disney, we loved it!
