Shake, Rattle ‘n’ Roll!

Askamum love my blog, ooo-errr how exciting!

While we were away on holiday I realised that Jimmy totally needed to have some new and more stimulating toys. While he’s still happy to lie on his play gym and bash the toys above him he very definitely needs something to hold and move around with interesting qualities to engage his new skills, he’s almost on the move you see! He has lots of lovely (and often pink) hand me down toys from Florence but it’s nice to have something new of your very own so I’ve been on the look out for things I think he’ll enjoy and this week he’s been playing with two new ones from the brand Sassy.

We’ve never used Sassy Toys before, not sure why as the logo is a ladybird and as Florence’s middle name is Ladybird we often home in on things with them but we’ve sadly managed to miss these before. I say sadly because of the two toys we’ve tried this week we have had a 100% success rate when it comes to keeping the little ones happy! That’s right, not just Jimmy but Florence too has been enjoying one of these toys and I’ve even had to make sure that one is up and out of the way when the cat’s around because he seems to have taken a shine to it too!!

So, firstly the one that just Jimmy has been enjoying on his own. The Stars and Sun Rattle is adorable. It’s a plush sun on a soft plastic ring which is decorated with spots and has three small star-shaped hoops round it to rattle, chew and twiddle. Each star has a different textured pattern and they make a rather satisfying clack when they touch each other. The plush sun shine has a double-sided face with awake eyes one side and sleeping the other. What I like about this rattle is the feel the material on the sunshine and the soft rubbery texture of the main ring; it’s all just so touchable! Jimmy loves the fact that it’s small and light enough for him to hold and it has a lovely gentle rattle which comes from the sunshine. He’s teething as well and is chewing like crazy on it so it’s obviously providing him with some gum relief as well as offering him visual and play stimulation. It’s a rattle to challenge the senses. Lovely sounds, interesting to touch and pretty and fun to look at with great textures to chew! He also can pop it over his wrist like a bracelet meaning he can keep hold of it more easily!

Jimmy having fun with his rattle!

The other toy, the one that has been making the cat go crazy and we’ve had to wrestle out of Florence’s grasp so that Jimmy can get a look in is the Small Chime Ball. It’s a super simple toy but I have to say that even I find it quite satisfying to shake. It has one of those old-fashioned sounding chimes in the middle of the ball in the centre so makes a wonderful noise that reminds me of something I used to play with when little. The centre ball has multicoloured spots and surrounding it is a bigger ball cage which is purple on one half and yellow the other with a black, white and turquoise ring running round the middle. The cage provides lots of grasping holes with the cage and has rounded edges so is very smooth and easy for a baby of Jimmy age to hold. When we roll it along the floor it makes Jimmy really giggle and because it rolls when he touches it, it’s been encouraging him to move after it. He’s not quite crawling but he still manages somehow to move around the mat after his ball.

We all love the ball!

What lovely toys, we’ll have to play with some more in the range. Jimmy’s just starting to really enjoy his bath so perhaps some of their bath toys next!
