Love Hearts, Valentines and Mothercare!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Before babies Valentines Day was about hearts and flowers. Actually what am I talking about, no it wasn’t, well, not in our house anyway! My ever romantic husband, who was my boyfriend back then was never one to go all out for a romantic evening, even if it WAS Valentines day. I remember one year, when I specifically told him he was in charge of it and I wanted pampering, he forgot to book a table anywhere. On the day he of course insisted that he hadn’t forgotten and despite the snow marched me round and round Norwich City Centre as he peered into every window of every restaurant trying to determine if there was a table free or not? There wasn’t but eventually, after waiting till 10.30, he got us a seat in a pizza place where he proceeded to make a speech about how ‘he’d been wanting to ask me something for ages and would I do him the great honour of…’ I was actually starting to feel a tad hopeful then he said ‘of letting me have the last piece of garlic bread’! He rolled around laughing for ages and still finds it funny now…

The next year he got his Mum to book a restaurant! Seriously! If he’d have done it he’d not have booked the one she booked because I don’t particularly like fish and it was a fish restaurant but there we are… We were in, at a decent time and waiting to be served. And waiting. And waiting. We waited 45 minutes for someone to take our drinks order, another half an hour for the bottle of wine to come and then 45 minutes after that with the wine drunk and no one having taken our food order Jonny, who was getting more and more wound up said ‘This is ridiculous, I’m leaving. come on’ and he MARCHED straight out the door without a second look leaving me hurriedly putting my coat on as the waitress was fast approaching. Urrr, he had the money so I legged it too and when we eventually got to the end of the road his Mum rang to say the restaurant had rung… GULP! It was ok, they were apologising not asking for us to go back and pay for the wine and actually gave us a free meal at a later date but it was certainly not a romantic Valentines Day…

There have been other typically unromantic years too. There was the time he forgot the card! The time he forgot the card and went and bought the ropiest one in the shop last-minute. The time he forgot the card so gave me a card I had already half made myself (I really like making cards and used to sell them) and just drew a heart on it then gave it to me… Seriously, it’s a wonder we ever got married at all isn’t it?! NOT that I had a proposal or anything but that’s a whole other story… No, the romantic gestures have always been down to me I have to say. I don’t mind really, he does lots of other lovely things and I just kind of skim over the parts where he says things like ‘I don’t get you an anniversary present because it’s tradition, it would be changing the way of things if I bought one this year’ and I make the romantic gestures instead!

As we have children now and because Florence loves anything pink I will be involving the children in our Valentines Day celebrations! We might make some red velvet cup cakes and decorate them with hearts and I love a bit of an excuse to dress the children up in festive attire so it’s going to be heart motifs and declarations on T Shirts from us which will also be good for the photo I need for my home-made card! Then Florence can help Jonny do the romantic Valentines Day treasure hunt that I will organise for them… We’ll have a romantic family evening, well as romantic as it can get with two children. My Mum will be here too so you never know, we might even get to go to the pub for a quick drink when the little ones have gone to bed… Who knows! So now all I have to do is get some lovely pictures of the children for the card and I’ve found some great clothes in Mothercare which are just the ticket for them.

I love Mothercare clothes because they’re brilliantly made and you can be guaranteed of quality when you buy from them. It also helps that they’re not too pricey these days! I’ve spoken lots about what good value their clothes are at the moment and for their Valentines Gift range it’s no exception! They have some simply FAB stuff, just look what I got!

This fab ‘100% loveable’ T shirt with long sleeves to look like it’s over another top is just £4!

Florence thinks her new ‘heart’ fleece is brilliant and it’s only £7 or you can get two for £12!I love fleeces because they’re really warm, wash incredibly well and dry SUPER easily! This one has a lovely high neck to keep her extra cosy. The Baby grow Jimmy is wearing is from a pack of three for £15.

This is what the pair of them can wear for bed on Valentines Day – how cute! The ‘I Love Mummy’ baby grow is one of the other ones in the pack of three for £15 and Florence’s suit is £15 too. I love it, it’s fleecey material but also a little bit furry and it’s sooooo soft! This is a great design for Florence because it has a really easy to use zip so that she can get in and out of it herself.

And these ‘I Love My Daddy’ ones are my absolute faves of the lot! I’ll definitely use one of these pictures for Jonny’s Valentines Card! Jimmy’s suit is the third one from the pack of three for £15. They pop up down the side which I actually think makes it a little bit easier to change a wriggling crawling baby! They’re also really soft to touch and these ones, which are age 9-12 months, have rubbery dots on the feet which will be good for when he starts to walk! The T Shirt Florence is wearing is my absolute favourite out of the whole collection that Mothercare have for Valentines Day and would you believe it’s only £2.50! It’s sort of faded and retro looking and for £2.50 you wouldn’t believe how well made it is unless you saw it and felt it!

I was not paid to write this article but I was sent some clothes to review for it’s purpose. I would just like to note that the order for the clothes was made in the ordinary channel and they arrived on a next day delivery service on time.
